All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ Lake Charles American Press September 24, 1931 Mrs. Thad Mayo Dies Pioneer Resident of Calcasieu Parish Passed away at age 91 Mrs. Thad Mayo, one of the pioneer citizens of the Old Imperial Calcasieu parish, mother of Mrs. Charlotte Dees, of Lake Charles, died at the age of 91 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. John H. Eastham, in Shreveport, at 8:30 o'clock this morning. The body will arrive in Lake Charles Friday afternoon at 4:10 o'clock, over the Southern Pacific railroad. It will be taken to the home of Mrs. Dees, 524 Hodges street, where funeral services will be held at 5:30 o'clock, conducted by the Right Rev. Monsignor Cramers. Interment will be in Graceland cemetery. The pall bearers will be James H. Leveque, E.J. Leveque, L.L. Moss, Louis Fournet, Fred Bird and Frank Gallaugher. The deceased was born Jan. 14, 1841, at Hickory Flat, near Kinder, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Zepherin Langley. She was married on June 15, 1859, to Thad Mayo. With the exception of a few years spent at Opelousas, she lived at Lake Charles ever since her marriage until several years ago when she went to Shreveport to make her home with Mrs. Eastham. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Dees of Lake Charles, Mrs. Eastham of Shreveport, and Mrs. Laura E. Cobb of Memphis. Surviving grandchildren are Miss Laura Dees of Lake Charles, Murray Eastham of Mooringsport, Mrs. Rosa B. Buckelew, Ernest Vordenbaulen, Mrs. Ruth Foster, Mrs. Mena Holt, all of Shreveport, Miss Dorc--- Carr of Memphis, Mrs. Marjorie Vuncannan of Shreveport, Mrs. J.A. Stockwell of Lake Charles, S. Thad Howell of Farmersville, Mrs. Lucille Holt of Laurel, Miss. There are a number of great grandchildren. Mrs. Izel Langley of Lake Charles is a niece and A.M. Mayo of Lake Charles is a nephew by marriage. Zepherin Langley was her older brother. Thaddeus and Melanie Langley Mayo had six children: Mary E. "Mollie", Lucy C., William B., Charlotte M. "Lottie", Ellen "Nellie" and Laura E. Mayo.
