He was christened on the 5 Feb. 1888 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Gonzales, La. His father died before Percy turned two years old leaving him and his mother to fend for themselves. As grandchildren of Percy, we called him Poppa and have found memories of him. As an only child he took care of his Mother as he grew older and moved himself and his Mom to Baton Rouge before 1910 and worked at what one of his son's said was a box factory. He met and married Sarah (Sallie) Gomez on 15 Jan 1910 and they settled down to raise 4 children. His Mother Mary Cecilia (called Cecilia) Duplessis 16 Feb. 1915 in Baton Rouge, La. Poppa was a hard working man and always had a very large garden that he plowed with his mule who he named Corina. Even when his oldest son bought a tractor that would have made his work much easier, he still continued to plow with Corina. When Poppa died Corina would not eat and soon died. I never heard my Poppa say a curse word and he would always plant special things like sugar cane and peanuts so us kids could eat them. He was a much loved good man.
