(Harbet) Blanchard, both of whom were natives of the same parish. The father has also followed planting and now resides in this parish. Pierre Adolph Blanchard received an ordinary education, and in 1862 he enlisted in the confederate army, Company A, Eighteenth Louisiana infantry, and belonged to the brigade commanded by General Morton. He was in the battles of Mansfield and Pleasant Hill, and his command was disbanded at Natchitoches, La., in May, 1865, after having been in service three years. During that time Mr. Blanchard learned the carpenter's trade, but has not followed that to any great extent, his principal occupation being planting. He was married April 27, 1869, to Miss Olivia Daigle, of Assumption parish, and their union has been blessed by the birth of nine children - four sons and five daughters. Mr. Blanchard is now manager of H. Daigle plantation, which lies on the right bank of La Fourche bayou, and consists of 1,180 acres, 540 acres fronting and 640 acres back of the bayou, and six miles from Donaldsonville. Mr. Blanchard conducts a large open kettle process of sugar making with evident success. For a few years previous to planting he was engaged in merchandising but preferred the life of a planter. He has always been deeply interested in politics and advocates the cause of the democratic party.
