CEUPPENS, Rev. Francis Xavier - 

REV. FRANCIS XAVIER CEUPPENS has been the efficient head of a number of churches 
throughout the state of Louisiana, but in none of them has he more capably or 
cheerfully discharged the duties which have fallen to his lot than as pastor of 
St. Theresa's church of New Orleans, over which he is at present presiding. He 
was born at Mechlin, Belgium, December 22, 1839, and received his education in 
the theological seminary of that place. In the year 1863 he came to New Orleans 
and in this city finished his theological studies. He was ordained a priest on 
November 4, 1863, by Archbishop Odin and his first charge was at New River, in 
Ascension parish, where he remained a year and a half. The succeeding three 
months he acted as assistant of St. John the Baptist church of New Orleans, 
which was followed by a brief time spent in Baton Rouge. Following this, in 
1866, he became pastor of a church in St. Martin's parish, Breaux Bridge, and 
four months later occupied the same position in St. Mary's church at Carrollton, 
where he remained from 1866 to 1871. The following fourteen years were spent as 
pastor of Ascension church at Donaldsonville, La., and from 1885 to 1890 he 
served in a like capacity in St. Paul's church at Bayou Goula. Since the last 
mentioned year he has been discharging the duties of pastor at St. Theresa's 
church at New Orleans, and is well liked, both socially and in the performance 
of his religious duties, by his large congregation.
