His birth occurring in 1840 (see notes below). He passed his school days here and after reaching mature years started out to fight his way in life as a cooper, locating three miles above Donaldsonville, La. He followed this business for about 5 years, and then began merchandising on New River. One year later, or in 1861 (see notes below) he enlisted from St. John the Baptist Parish in the Confederate Army, and was in the battles of Baton Rouge, Jackson, Chattanooga and others." "He was taken prisoner at Jonesboro the same night as the fall of Atlanta, and was held nine months at Camp Douglas, Chicago. While in the service he held the rank of Sargent. "Returning home after cessation of hostilities he began again merchandising and continued this for 4 years when he closed out and began planting." "He owns 125 acres of good land and raises cotton and sugar, having a gin and a sugar house on his place." "Mr. Guedry was married in 1867 to Miss Breand (see notes below) from Donaldsonville, and they have four interesting children, 2 sons and 2 daughters all living." Mr. Guedry's father, Donat Guedry was born at St James Parish, La in 1796 and followed planting all his life. He died in 1874. He served all thru the War of 1812. His wife died in 1877. Of the six children born to this union, Adam Guedry was the youngest and the only son." **************** Notes and corrections: Adam's birthdate is incorrect, he was born Oct 16, 1839 source: Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Church Records Adam's military records show he enlisted March 12 1862 at Plaquemine La. and was registered by St. Van Phol. He was a Private in Co G of the 30th (Sumter) Regiment, Louisiana Infantry. This company subsequently became Co I, 30th Regiment, Louisiana Infantry. During the months of Nov and Dec 1862 he was absent.. sick in a hospital in Jackson, La. He was captured as a prisoner of war at Jonesboro, Ga on August 31, 1864. Nov 2, 1864 finds him being transferred to Camp Douglas in Chicago IIllinois. He was discharged from the prison camp on June 17, 1865. He is described as having a dark complexion, dark hair and gray eyes. He was 5 ft 10 in tall. Adam Marie (yes Marie!!) Guedry was born 16 Oct 1839 and was the son of Donat Guedry and Marie Therriot. He married Felicite Velida Braud on 26 Jan 1867 in Ascension Parish. He was buried 12 Oct 1909 in Ascension Parish.
