WIDOW'S APPLICATION FOR PENSION STATE OF LOUISIANA PARISH OF Ascension On this 5 day of June, 1912, personally appeared before me, ________, Clerk of the District Court, within and for said Parish and State, Mrs. Ada A. Cannon, aged 61 years, a resident of the 9th of Acy P. O. Parish of Ascension and State of Louisiana, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of Martin Cannon who entered the service of the Confederate States during the civil war under the name of Martin Cannon at ________ on the ___ day of April 1862, in Private Co A 9th Regt Battalion (Here state rank, company and regiment, or vessel) from the State of Louisiana that he served honorably until close of war at Gainesville, Ala (Here give where paroled or discharged) on the May 1865; and that he remained true to the Confederate States, until the surrender, at wehich time he was in Co A 9th Reg Batt as Private that she was married to the said soldier under the name of Ada Bullock on the 28 day of Dec 1867, by Rev, Elijah Rice at St. Amant, LA that she has not married again, and that she is now in indigent circumstances and unable to earn a livelihood by her own labor or skill, that she is not married or otherwise provided for by the State of Louisiana or by any other State or Government; that her said husband died on the ____ day of Jany 1899; ay Avy P. O., that she has resided in the State of Louisiana for 53 years next preceding the date of this application, and that she claims the aid and benefit of Article 303 of the Constitution of 1898 and subsequent Acts of the Legislature of the State thereunder as is shown by her answers to the following questions which she swears to be true and correct: 1. Have you conveyed property to any one in the past few years? Answer: 40 acres to pay old debts 6. If any, How much and to whom conveyed? Answer: 40 acres to S. B. Bamman 7. The name martin Cannon has not been found on the rolls on file in this office of Company A, 9th Battalion Louisiana Cavalry, Confederate States Army. The prisoner of war records (Union) show, however, that one Martin Cannon, private, Company A, Ogden's Regiment Louisiana Cabalry, Confederate States Army (also known as 9th Louisiana Cavalry, Confederate States Army), surrendered May 4, 1865 at Citronelle, Alabama, and was paroled May 12, 1865, at Gainesville, Alabama.
