Mr. and Mrs. Jos. S. Blanchard, Sr., Twenty-Five Years Married. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph S. Blanchard, Sr. of this city, completed twenty-five years of happy married life yesterday and celebrated the auspicious event in a quiet but very pretty and appropriate way. There was a beautiful mass at he (sic) Catholic church at 6:30 a.m. Rev. C.M. Chambon, officiating, which was attended by Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard, all the members of their family, and other relatives and friends, and in the evening there was a quiet family dinner at the Blanchard home, in St. Vincent street at which all of the couple's children, their son-in- law, George Maurin and Miss Stella Beatty, sister of Mrs. Blanchard were present, and the evening was spent most happily and delightfully. Jos. S. Blanchard, and Miss Edith Beatty of Bayou Goula, were married at the latter place, April 28, 1897. The couple took up their residence in Donaldsonville and have resided here ever since. For many years Mr. Blanchard has held an important and responsible position in the employ of B. Lemann & Bro., as salesman in the drygoods (sic) department of their big store and by close attention to the duties of his position and the exemplary life which he has led, has gained the confidence of his employers and the respect and esteem of the entire community. He is a member of Ascension Council No. 1087, in which he holds a high office. He is a man of attractive personality and very jovial disposition, ever ready to extend a helping hand to those in need and numbers his friends by the score. Mrs. Blanchard is the true type of the devoted wife and loving and affectionate mother and during the long years of their happy wedded life, has proven, in every sense of the word a real housewife, devoted to her home, husband and children, and a true helpmate to her husband. Nine children blessed their union, namely, Joseph S. Blanchard, Jr., Ethel, now Mrs. George Maurin, Miss Edith, Beatty, Mulford, Marguerite, May, John and Courtland. All reared in the love and fear of God. All affectionate and obedient children, the pride of their adoring parents and of their admiring friends. In the enjoyment of the very best of health, and surrounded by their interesting family every one of whom is likewise in good health, Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard, on the occasion of their silver wedding had nothing more to wish for - the measure of their earthly happiness was complete. The Chief takes pleasure in extending hearty congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard, and in expressing the hope that they will continue to enjoy vigorous health and live to celebrate their golden wedding.
