(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, November 17, 1917, Page 3 Burning of Barn Causes $4000 Loss. - A barn on Thos. D. Cox's St. Philomene plantation on the west bank of Bayou Lafourche, about four miles below Donaldsonville, was totally destroyed by fire last Saturday evening, together with 3000 barrels of corn and about $300 worth of hay. The fire started at 5:45 p.m., shortly after the mules stabled in the building had been fed, and had gained such headway before being discovered that it proved impossible to save the structure. The mules were rescued, however. Mr. Cox estimates his loss at approximately $4000, with no insurance. He is unable to account for the origin of the blaze. The motor truck of Vigilant Hose Company of Donaldsonville was rushed to the scene, but arrived too late to render assistance.
