The Coast Journal says: The house adjoining the old Methodist Church was discovered to be on fire. The flames spread with amazing rapidity, and not-withstanding the efforts of those present, were not stopped until the house in which the fire originated, together with the adjoining residence, occupied by Hypolite Degruise, f.m.c., were totally destroyed. The building in which the fire originated belonged to Mr. Gingry, and was occupied on one side by the Jews, as a synagogue, and on the other by a private family. The loss, as far as we have been able to gather, sums up as follows: Mr. Gingry, $1500; Hypolite Degruise, $1500; Jewish synagogue, $150; family living in Mr. Gingry's house, $100. Total $3250.00.
