The Peytavin plantation, situated immediately below the town of Donaldsonville, for many years the property of the Lemann Company but recently owned by a corporation known as the Peytavin Company, Inc., has changed hands; the purchasers being Omer Robert, Amede Robert and Wallace Robert, brothers. The price and consideration is fixed at $80,000 and the sale will be finally consummated in January. The sale does not include the mules, implements and equipment. This plantation is one of the oldest and best known in Louisiana, and years ago, it was provided with a good mill and was operated as a sugar plantation and factory. The place contains 1381.42 acres of land, nearly all of which is open and cultivable, and the soil is adapted to the growing of sugar cane, rice and corn. It is also provided with one large magnificent residence, and several smaller dwelling houses, and a number of cabins for laborers, and all barns, sheds, etc., necessary on an up-to-date farm. Its location adjoining Donaldsonville, is one of the best in the state. Its close proximity to the town enables it to enjoy the benefits and conveniences of a city, including the shipping facilities by both rail and water, without the added burden of city taxes, and for that reason makes it an ideal place of residence as well as plantation. The new purchasers are rice planters, in which industry they have been engaged very successfully for many years. For the past few years they have cropped on the Riverton plantation of the Miles Company, above Burnside, where they have reaped rich harvests of rice. It is their intention to plant the greater part of their new plantation in rice, for the cultivation of which they are thoroughly equipped. The Chief congratulates Messrs. Robert Bros. upon their purchase of the Peytavin, and hope that their planting efforts on this place will be crowned with the same splendid success which rewarded their labors on other farms in the past.
