(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, November 04, 1882, page 3 Died. - ABADIE - In New Orleans, October 23, 1882, at 2:30 A.M., CULBERT B. ABADIE, aged 15 years and 1 month, only son of E.C. and Barbetta Abadie. During the past week the writer met E.C. Abadie, the efficient commercial traveling solicitor of the well known house of Zuberbier & Behan, New Orleans. On accosting this otherwise smiling, genial gentleman, the writer was naturally surprised to observe, instead of a countenance wreathed with smiles, one overshadowed with mournful expressions of sadness; instead of a hand invariably firm in its warm, cordial grasp, one cold and trembling in its deep emotion. Then came from quivering lips the sorrowful words, "I have just lost my boy, an only son, the idol of my soul, and I am disconsolate indeed, with scarcely heart and courage enough to attend the onerous and pressing work for the house. He was a very bright, handsome and promising youth, and during my leisure moments, at our once happy home in the city, was my constant companion; whenever business called me away - which is very frequent - he eagerly watched my return home from voyages in the interior, and when the moment arrived for my departure for a tour through the rural districts, always accompanied me to the steamboat landing or railway depot; indeed, whithersoever I roamed in New Orleans, whether in quest of amusement, recreation or business pursuits, he was ever at my side. Oft-times he would be accompany me in my business trips through the rural districts, affording me the pleasure of his delightful, merry society." The writer has attempted as nearly as possible to convey in the father's own words the painful reminiscences of a lacerated heart; words uttered while the eyes were streaming with tears of bitter grief. To say that the writer profoundly sympathizes with friend Abadie, but faintly expresses his profound regret at this unfortunate and heartrending event. The same mournful sentiments of sorrow animate all the friends and acquaintances of the bereaved father wherever he is known, all of whom will join the writer in sincere condolence for him and family.
