(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, February 22, 1919, page 2 Good Colored Citizen Dead. - Philogene Arceneaux, a highly respected colored citizen and successful rice planter of the fourth ward of this parish, died at his home on the old Pedesclaux plantation, last Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, after an illness of four months, aged 58 years. The funeral took place Monday afternoon, and the remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery at St. James. Deceased was a hard working and industrious man and had been engaged in the cultivation of rice for several years. About eighteen months ago, he acquired from Joseph Rateau the old Pedesclaux plantation, situated on the river at the lower end of this parish, and was residing there and working the place at the time of his death.
