[volume] (Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, February 06, 1909, Image 3 Death of Leon Babin. - Once again The Chief is called upon to perform the sorrowful task of chronicling the death of a fellow citizen - this time that of Leon Babin, who died at 8:15 o'clock yesterday morning at his home on the east bank of Bayou Lafourche, about one mile below Donaldsonville, at the ripe old age of eighty-five years, five months and twenty seven days. Mr. Babin had been in feeble health for some time past, never having recovered entirely from the effects of a severe attack of grippe which he contracted several months ago. His remains were interred in the Donaldsonville Catholic cemetery at 10 o'clock this forenoon, after services at Ascension Church, Rev. J. M. T. Massardier officiating. The obsequies were attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends, who took this last occasion to testify to their great esteem and veneration for the deceased patriarch. Mr. Babin was a man of strong character and Christianly spirit. As a husband and father he was an example of paternal devotion, and as a friend he was loved and respected by all. He is survived by three sons, Messrs. J. B. Babin of Oubre P. O., St. James parish, and John and Louis Babin of Donaldsonville, and three daughters, Mesdames T. L. Michel of Peytavin plantation, Thos. Blouin of Donaldsonville, and J. S. Codifer of New Orleans. The Chief sympathises (sic) profoundly with the family in their great bereavement. source: The Times-Democrat (New Orleans, Louisiana) Sat., Feb. 6, 1909, page 7 Leon Babin, one of the pioneer citizens of Ascension parish, died at his residence on the east bank of Bayou Lafourche, about one mile below Donaldsonville, at 8:15 o'clock a. m. to-day, aged eighty-five years.
