BURNED TO DEATH. - Five Year-Old Child Victim of Awful Accident Near Dutchtown. 
- A sad accident occurred on Friday of last week at the home of Sylvere Babin 
near Dutchtown, when his youngest child, Andrew Babin, aged five, was burned to 
death. Both parents were absent from home at the time, and the other children 
were at school. The oldest boy, Lester, was burning weeds in a nearby field with 
the child in his care, and had just started toward the house for a drink, 
telling the little fellow to follow, when a neighbor engaged him in 
conversation. A moment later cries from the child attracted the brother and 
neighbor, who when they reached him found he had removed his coat and that 
almost every part of his other garments had been burned from his body. He was 
taken at once to the house and the parents and a doctor called, but he had 
inhaled the fumes and all efforts to save him were in vain. The accident took 
place about 3 p.m. and the unfortunate victim died two hours later, with all the 
family at his side except two brothers, Alex and Joseph, who are teaching school 
in Lafourche parish. Theye were notified at once and started for home, but did 
not arrive until Saturday night at 10 o'clock. The funeral was held at 
Prairieville cemetery at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Lester Babin was burned to some extent in the rescue, but fortunately not 
seriously.

The friends and relatives of the bereaved family extend to them their heartfelt 
sympathy in the great sorrow that has been visited upon them.
