Died. - BALL - At his residence in Smoke Bend, Ascension parish, La., on 
Saturday, January 31, 1885, at 6 P.M., DUNHAM B. BALL, a native of Jefferson, 
Cook county, Illinois, aged 39 years, 5 months and 10 days.

This estimable gentleman had been for several months a sufferer from a pulsating 
tumor in the region of the heart, produced by over exertion in repairing a piece 
of machinery, and while all hope of his ultimate recovery had been abandoned by 
his friends, they were in no wise prepared for such an early termination of his 
life. He had been recently visited by his mother, three brothers and a sister-
in-law, all of whom excepting the mother and one brother left for home only a 
few days prior to his death. To these sorrowing relatives and to the young wife 
who is left a widow while yet a bride, the Chief extends its sincerest sympathy. 
Mr. Ball had resided in Ascension parish for the past eight years, and was 
married on the 25th of last June to Miss Leonie Arceneaux, daughter of the late 
L. Desire Arceneaux. He served four years in the Federal army during the war as 
a non-commissioned officer of the Thirteenth Wisconsin Infantry and was esteemed 
a brave and faithful soldier. By his many admirable traits of character he won 
the respect and regard of all who met him, and his untimely death will be deeply 
regretted. His remains were interred Sunday afternoon, in the Catholic cemetery 
of this place.
