Becker, manager of the store on Mr. Oliver Beirne's Ascension plantation in this parish, died suddenly last Monday morning from an attack of epilepsy, a malady with which he has been for years afflicted. He arose at a very early hour, about 2 o'clock, and proceeded to an outhouse on the premises. His long absence alarmed his wife, who aroused her sister, and together they went in search of the unfortunate young man. ***[paper crease] dead are better to be imagined than described. Mr. Becker had been here only a few months, having previously been employed in a store on the Armant plantation of the Burnside estate in St. James. He was a gentleman of excellent character and enjoyed the esteem of all who knew him. Only recently married, he leaves a young widow to whom the sympathy of the entire community will be extended in her irreparable bereavement.
