Becknel, a native of St. John parish, and a resident of St. James for the past two years, died at 7:35 o'clock a.m. Monday, Sept. 4, at his home on Salsburg plantation, after an illness of several months' duration, aged 65 years. The funeral took place Tuesday forenoon at 10 o'clock, with services and interment in the Donaldsonville Catholic church and cemetery. Mr. Becknel is survived by his wife, nee Almena Aucoin, and six children, namely: Messrs. Pierre and Paul Becknel and Misses Doffie and Noemie Becknel, of Salsburg plantation; Mrs. Edmond Landry, of Donaldsonville, and Mrs. Beverly Stowers, of Harriston, Miss. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Louis T. Copping and Mrs. John Mason, of New Orleans, and Mrs. Nary Landry, of Philadelphia. Mr. Becknel formerly resided in Ascension parish and had many friends here who learned of his death with sincere sorrow and join in extending condolences to the bereaved family.
