Judge W.W. Buford of Port Barrow this week received the painful intelligence of 
the death of his only brother, Giles Yost [sic] Buford, a respected and wealthy 
citizen of Glasgow, Barren county, Kentucky. The town newspaper, the Glasgow 
Times, thus speaks of deceased:

Giles Buford was one of the foremost citizens of our county in every thing 
pertaining to its material interest. As farmer, trader, merchant or citizen he 
was equally prominent, and possessed in the fullest degree the confidence of our 
entire people. His integrity was of that unflinching character that needed no 
legal enforcement to secure justice. His word was his bond, and everybody 
accepted that as a positive fact. In his dealings with mankind he was the 
embodiment of justice and fair dealing. There was nothing mean or hidden in his 
character. He carried his manly principles plainly written in every facial 
expression. His principles he battled for, but never offensively. He was kind-
hearted and generous, as he was courteous, and none who knew him, knew him but 
with feelings of the greatest respect and kindness. He was a life long citizen 
of Barren county, and was probably as widely and favorably known as any resident 
since our county's organization. Mr. Buford was forty nine years of age, and 
leaves a widow and five children to mourn his great loss. His remains were 
carried to the old homestead, about five miles south of town, and laid alongside 
of his family dead.
