Bullion, not only in St. Landry, where he resided for a number of years after the war, but throughout the State, will learn with sincere regret of his violent taking off on the 29th of August last, on his Hope Villa plantation near Baton Rouge. He became entangled in the machinery of his gin, and his arm and leg were severely lacerated, rendering amputation necessary, but the shock was too great for his advanced years, and he died the next morning. Gen. Bullion was a native of Baton Rouge. He was a valiant Confederate soldier, serving during the last days of the Confederacy as courier to Gen. John B. Gordon. He was prominent in public affairs, having represented Ascention (sic) parish in the State Legislature at one time and was formerly Major-General commanding the Louisiana division U. C. V. He leaves a widow and several children and other relatives, to whom we extend our sincere condolence in their sad bereavement.
