Cage, former mayor and postmaster of Pharr, Texas, and editor and proprietor of the Clarion, a weekly newspaper published in that city, and at one time a resident of the parish of Ascension, died at his home in the Texas city Monday, April 10, at 5:30 o'clock p. m., following an attach of appoplexy (sic). Mr. Cage had been confined to his bed for six weeks with a broken hip, sustained as a result of being knocked down by an automobile. He was convalescing fast and expected to be able to resume his work in the early future when stricken with the fatal malady which put an end to his career. He at one time conducted a moving picture show at Pharr and is said to have given the people the best pictures they ever had. He was active, energetic, progressive and public spirited, took an active interest in civic and political matters and stood very high in the community in which he lived. His death is said to have been a great sohck (sic) to the people of Pharr and to have cast a deep gloom over the entire city. Deceased was well known in this parish. He came here from Memphis, Tenn., about twenty-five years ago and was employed as bookkeeper on George B. Reuss' Germania plantation and also on the Belle Helene plantation for ten years. When he left Ascension he went to Braithwait, below New Orleans, where he remained for some time before removing to Pharr. While here he took a keen interest in all public matters, while at the same time devoting special attention to the duties of his employment. He was a good citizen, made many friends and was well thought of by everybody. His removal from the parish was very much regretted by his employers and all who knew him. The news of his death was received with genuine sorrow by his friends and acquaintances here.
