(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, June 27, 1914, page 3 Death of Edward Paul Casso. - In the prime of his young life, on the very threshold of a career which held forth to him brightest promises, Edward Paul Casso, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lucien Casso, passed from this world into eternity at 3:30 o'clock last Sunday morning, aged nineteen years and four months. The young man had been desperately ill for many weeks with a malady that baffled his physician and although the fight to prolong his life was waged unceasingly with all the skill at the command of medical science, supplemented with tender, careful nursing by the devoted parents and other loved ones, human efforts proved of no avail to avert the merciless decree of grim-visaged death, who knocks alike at the palaces of the rich and the cottages of the poor, and will not be denied. The sufferings of the young man at times during his long illness were intense, but he bore his burden of pain patiently and uncomplainingly, and at the hour of his dying fell into the last long slumber as calmly and peacefully as the tired child drops to rest after a day of healthy play. That he was generally liked was everywhere in evidence. At the home where he lay so desperately ill streams of people came constantly, anxiously inquiring as to his condition and hoping for his recovery: in the room where his body lay exposed, throngs of friends gathered, with quivering lips and tear-stained eyes, to gaze for the last time upon the kind face they knew so well; and at the grave a multitude of mourners assembled to pay the final tribute of respect to his memory and to deposit upon his resting place a wreath of beautiful flowers, fragrant offerings from those who loved and admired him. When the pendulum of time swings over life's allotted span and the light of full, ripe years has burned to its lowest ebb, we look upon the inexorable law of nature with resignation and consent; but when the curtain of life is suddenly rung down in the full vigor of young manhood and usefulness, though we may repress the tear of bitter grief and bow in sorrowful submission, we are powerless to fathom the all-wise workings of the Master's will, and are constrained to marvel at the sternness of the decree that leaves us disconsolate. We know not why "He chastiseth those whom He loveth," and we can but murmur with grief-bowed head "Thy will be done," and depend upon Him to some day make all these things plain. The funeral was held at 9:30 o'clock Monday morning, with services at Ascension church and interment in the Catholic cemetery. The remains were followed to the grave by a vast assemblage of sorrowing friends, the size and character of the funeral cortege, as well as the profusion of fragrant floral tributes which covered the casket, attesting the high degree of esteem in which he was held and the profundity of the sorrow occasioned by his untimely demise. members of Mohawk Tribe of Red Men and Napanee Council, Daughters of Pocahontas, attended the obsequies in a body, deceased having been a valued and popular member of the former organization. The deepest sympathy of the whole community goes out to the bereaved parents, brothers and sisters. May the warmth and sweetness of his spirit still linger to cheer them, and God's tender love console them in this their hour of trial.
