Charlet. - The many friends in this community of Capt. P. A. Charlet, of Assumption parish, were deeply pained to learn of his death, which occurred at his home near Plattenville at 11:50 o'clock a. m. last Sunday, March 26. Capt. Charlet was a native of Assumption and was sixty-six years of age. He served in the Second Louisiana Regiment during the civil war, and after the cessation of hostilities he entered steamboating as a clerk. In 1870 he formed a partnership with Capt. J. F. Aucoin and bought the steamer Lizzie Hopkins. In 1887 Capt. Charlet commanded the St. John, and in 1888 he had the Lafourche built, running her until she was burned in 1907. Later he ran the Gem and the Mabel Comeaux, retiring from the steamboating business about three years ago. He is survived by his widow, formerly Miss Eulalie Pintado, and four children: Mrs. (Dr.) Henry LeBlanc, and Messrs. Alcee M., Elphege and Pierre Charlet, Jr., all of whom reside in Assumption. The funeral took place Monday afternoon, with services and interment in the Plattenville Catholic church and cemetery. The sincere sympathy of an exceptionally wide circle of friends and acquaintances is extended to the bereaved family in their great grief.
