Cire, a native of Donaldsonville, but for many years past a resident of Whitecastle [sic], died suddenly at his home in that town at 10 o'clock p.m. Wednesday, aged fifty-eight years. Mr. Cire was apparently in the best of health, but complained of feeling slightly unwell Wednesday night upon arriving at his home from his drug store a short distance away, and sitting down in a chair, expired before anything could be done for him. The remains, accompanied by a large number of sorrowing friends, were brought to Donaldsonville on the T. and P. train arriving here at 4:35 p.m. Thursday, and were interred in the local Catholic cemetery, the funeral being under the auspices of the Masonic lodge of Whitecastle, of which order Mr. Cire was a prominent and zealous member. Deceased had successfully conducted a drug store in Whitecastle for a long time of years and was one of the most influential and popular citizens of that community, having served as the town's first mayor and held other positions of honor and trust. To his gref-stricken [sic] wife, nee Miss Mamie Maurin of Ville du Bois plantation, Assumption parish, profound sympathy is extended by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.
