Walter Comstock, a well-known and highly esteemed citizen of this town, died at 9:50 o'clock Wednesday morning in New Orleans, whither he went a short time ago for medical treatment. His wife and brother, Whitney Comstock, attended him in his last moments and were at his bedside when he gave up the fight and yielded his soul to its maker. The remains were brought to Donaldsonville on the 6:55 o'clock T. and P. train Wednesday evening and conveyed to the residence of Mrs. Albert Comstock at the corner of Opelousas and Lessard streets, from whence the funeral took place at 10 o'clock Thursday forenoon. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery after impressive services at the Church of the Sacred Heart, the obsequies being attended by a large gathering of relatives and friends. Mr. Comstock was for may years assistant postmanster (sic) of this town and subsequently conducted a news and stationary store in the old Gondran building at the corner of Railroad avenue and Iberville street. About two years age he accepted a position as traveling salesman for the Philip Werlein Music Co., of New Orleans, in which occupation he was engaged at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Emma Weber, of this city, and a young daughter, Mattie; his mother, Mrs. Albert Comstock; three brothers, Ned, Albert and Whitney Comstock, and one sister, Mrs. Sam J. Lacour, of Point Coupee parish. Deceased was thirty-eight years and six months of age, and had resided in Donaldsonville pratically (sic) all his life. He as a member of Olive Camp No. 18, Woodmen of the World, and Ascension Council No. 1087, Knight of Columbus, both of which organizations attended the funeral in body.
