COMSTOCK. - From the New Orleans States of last Monday evening we copy the following sad announcement and merited eulogy: Yesterday William V. Comstock died after a long and painful illness. He was an employe(sic) of the States office until a few weeks ago, when he rapidly declining health compelled him to take to his bed. For several years that most fatal and insidious disease, consumption, preyed upon him, and reduced him to a skeleton of his former self. Mr. Comstock was a cadet at the Annapolis Naval School at the breaking out of the war between the States, resigning when his native State seceded. He joined the Confederate navy and served in that department throughout the struggle. After the surrender he came to New Orleans, and engaged in commercial pursuits. He was employed for several years in the Times, the Times-Democrat, and lastly the States. He was an accomplished scholar, and added to this a pleasant demeanor which always won him friends. He leaves a wife and several children to mourn his loss. His remains will be taken today to Donaldsonville for burial on the Danube, of which boat his brother is captain. The body reached here Tuesday morning and was taken to the residence of Mr. Conrad L. Mavor, brother-in-law of the deceased, from whence it was conveyed to the Catholic cemetery and interred during the afternoon. To the sorrowing relatives of the worthy deceased, and particularly to his estimable sister, Mrs. Camilia Mavor, we offer our sincere sympathy. They lament the loss of one who was respected and esteemed by all who knew him.
