Mrs. J. D. Cantey, nee Mary Jane Chapman, a native and life-long resident of 
this parish, died at her home in the sixth ward on Wednesday last, the 19th 
inst., at 3:30 o'clock a. m., aged 64 years, 3 months and 18 days. The 
funeral took place at 8:30 o'clock Thursday forenoon, interment being made 
in the Protestant cemetery in this city after impressive services at the 
Episcopal church. Mrs. Cantey was the widow of John D. Cantey, who served as 
clerk of court of Ascension parish many years ago. She had many friends in 
this community and elsewhere by whom the announcement of her demise will be 
received with a feeling of sincere regret, and who will join The Chief in 
extending profound sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
