DUGAS. - Mr. Clement Dugas, who was so terribly wounded by the gunpowder explosion in his store at Smoke Bend, last Saturday evening, died at half past 9 o'clock the following night, after lingering twenty- eight hours and undergoing much suffering. Death was to him a happy release from body pain. He was 27 years and 10 months old, a native of Ascension parish, and leaves a wife and child to mourn the sad fate of an excellent husband and father. Mr. Dugas is well spoken of by all who knew him. He was a sober, industrious and thrifty butcher and merchant, and his death deprives the community of a useful and exemplary citizen. He was interred Monday evening, in the Catholic burial ground at Paincourtville, whither a number of mourning friends followed his remains to their last resting plare (sic). The other young men injured by the explosion that proved fatal to Mr. Dugas are doing well and have almost completely recovered from their wounds.
