DUKE. - At twelve minutes of 2 o'clock this morning this old and well known citizen of Donaldsonville breathed his last, after an illness of only six days. The cause of his death, we believe, was congestive chills. The attending physician abandoned all hope of saving his patient several days ago, and Mr. Duke's death has been momentarily expected since Tuesday. He was given all possible care and attention by his devoted wife and family, assisted by numerous friends, but the character of his disease was such as to render human agencies powerless to avert the fatal result. Mr. Duke was born in Maysville, Ky., on the 24th of November, 1820, and has resided in Donaldsonville over thirty years. He leaves a wife and five children - four sons and a daughter - to mourn him. Deceased was a member of Ascension Hook and Ladder Company and the funeral, which takes place at 5 o'clock this evening, will be conducted under the auspices of that organization. Phoenix Fire Company and the St. joseph Band will also attend. In common with all the people of Donaldsonville and vicinity we extend to the bereaved relatives of "Old Uncle Bob" sincere sympathy in their affliction, and hope that the soul of their beloved dead has winged its flight to regions of eternal happiness.
