M., JAMES LIVINGSTON DURAND, aged 27 years, 1 month and 1 day. New Orleans and Baton Rouge papers please copy. The death of this estimable young man has cast a gloom of sadness over a large circle of relatives and friends. He was ill only a short time, having been first attacked Friday evening of last week, and the shock which has been sustained by those near and dear to him was increased in effect by its comparatively sudden and unexpected character. He was attended by Dr. Schwing and Drs. Postell, father and son, whose great skill was assiduously exercised in the vain endeavor to stay the progress of his illness and ward off the approach of the grim destroyer to whom all humanity must sooner or later yield up the boon of earthly existence. To these faithful physicians the grief stricken family tender deepest thanks for their unremitting efforts to save the loved one's life, and especial gratitude to young Dr. Lawrence Postell, who was an almost constant attendant, day and night, at the bedside of his patient. Deceased leaves a father, five sisters and one brother to lament the loss of one to whom they were fondly devoted, and the memory of whose affectionate regard and many virtues will never fade from their sorely wounded hearts. An affianced bride, an amiable and attractive young lady residing in Plaquemine, who had hoped to call him husband within two short months, mingles her bitter tears with those of the bereaved relatives, and her deep grief excites the sorrow and sympathy of all who know her. An intelligent, upright, moral and industrious young man - one who was indeed a model after whom others might pattern with profit - has gone to an untimely grave. It may be truly said of him, None knew him but to love him, None named him but to praise. May the sod rest lightly upon his noble form and his spirit find eternal rest and happiness in the sphere beyond the tomb, is the prayer of one who was privileged to call him more than A FRIEND.
