She was 67. Visiting at Welsh Funeral Home, 426 W. New River, Gonzales, 8:30 a.m. until religious services at 10 a.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Martin Hernandez. Burial in Prairieville Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, James T. "JT" Smith; two sons, Barry Smith and Darrell Smith and his fiancee, Janet Fontenot; a sister, Vera White; a brother, Carl Duplessis; two grandchildren, Joey and Shi Fontenot; two great-grandchildren, Chris and Theressa Fontenot; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Julius and Winnie Berteau Duplessis; four sisters, Hazel Gauthier, Ruth Sanchez, Addis Smith and Mary Ann Arceneaux; five brothers, Bentley "Pic," Murphy "Yank," Larry "Shank," Garvey "Shag" and Virgil "Beak" Duplessis; and a grandchild, Melanie Fontenot. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
