[volume] (Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, August 18, 1883, Image 3 DIED BY THE ROADSIDE. - A white man who proved to be one Geo. W. Evans of Remsen, Oneida county, New York, died alongside the levee opposite the Cuba plantation, in the first ward of this parish, last Friday night. Acting Coroner Duffel was notified and held an inquest, coming to the conclusion that Evans had died of pernicious malarial fever. Deceased was apparently aged about 35 years, 5 1/2 feet high, with dark hair and complexion. He had eighty cents in silver in his pocket and a carpet sack containing several articles of clothing, an account book and photographs of a lady and children. Dr. Duffel has placed these effects in the official custody of the Clerk and Recorder.
