The Abbeville Meridional of Sept 21 thus announces the demise of a worthy 
gentleman, for many years a resident of St. Landry:

Captain Francois Feray, died at his residence in this town, aged 56 years, 
on Wednesday morning the 18th inst., at 7 o'clock, after a long and painful 
illness. He was a native of France, but had resided in this parish a number 
of years, and was well known throughout this section of the country. His 
funeral which took place Thursday morning was very large and bespoke the 
regret at his untimely death.
