Foxwell. - The many friends in Ascension of Joseph L. Foxwell were deeply pained to learn of his demise, which occurred at his home on Pike's Peak plantation, in St. James parish, at 12:12 o'clock p. m. last Tuesday, the 18th inst. Mr. Foxwell had been suffering from an affection of the heart for the past four or five months and his death was therefore not entirely unexpected, although it proved none the less a severe shock to his host of friends throughout the sugar district. His remains were taken to New Orleans Wednesday forenoon via the Texas and Pacific Railway and were laid to rest in one of the cemeteries of that city. Mr. Foxwell was a native of North Carolina, but had resided in Louisiana for upwards of twenty years. During the greater portion of that period he was employed by the firm of Gaskins & Rolling, formerly as manager of the Point Houmas plantation in this parish, and in recent years as field marshall (sic) of the Pike's Peak place in St. James. He was regarded as one of the most capable cultivators of the soil and handlers of labor in the Louisiana sugar belt, and was held in high esteem and confidence by his employers and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by one sister and one brother, to whom the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends and acquaintances is extended.
