Gives His Life for His Country. - It is with profound regret the Chief learns
of the death in France, on the 3rd inst., of Arthur Folse, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Eugene Folse, of Lauderdale. The young man succumbed to an attack of pneumonia,
according to the brief announcement contained in a delayed cablegram which
reached the family Friday morning. He enlisted in the regular army at New Orl-
eans last summer, and was sent to France only a few weeks ago. His grief-str-
icken parents and other members of the family have the sincerest sympathy of
the entire community in their deep bereavement. Let them derive consolation
from the precious knowledge that their boy proved true to the highest tradit-
ions of the glorious nation which gave him birth, and at the end laid down his
life in behalf of the noblest cause for which free men have ever fought and died.

A solemn requiem mass for the repose of the soul of the late Sergeant Arthur 
Folse, who died in France on the 3rd inst. while in the military service of 
the United States, was held at the local Catholic church at 8 o'clock Friday 
morning. Rev. Father Chambon conducted the impressive ceremonies, which were 
attended by relatives and friends of the deceased soldier and the students of 
the Catholic schools of this city. The catafalque employed in the services was 
draped with American flags.
