(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, March 25, 1911, page 5 Death of Felix Gauthreaux. - George Felix Gauthreaux, a native of St. James parish, but a resident of this city for more than half a century, died at his home in St. Patrick street at 3:40 o'clock p. m. last Saturday, the 18th. inst., aged seventy-one years, ten months and twenty-five days. Mr. Gauthreaux had been in failing health many months, having been confined to his home since sustaining an attack of paralysis some time ago, from the effects of which he never fully recovered. Up to the time of this unfortunate visitation he led an active life and was a familiar figure on the streets of the city, despite the fact that he had been partially blind for years and almost wholly bereft of sight for nearly a decade past. Deceased served as organist of the local Catholic church for fifty-five years. He was known by every man, woman and child in the community, and was highly esteemed as an upright, honorable and patriotic citizen. The funeral took place at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, with services and interment in the Catholic Church and cemetery. The obsequies were conducted by Right Rev. Canon J. M. T. Massardier, assisted by Revs. Scramuzzi and Delepine and were of a most solemn and impressive nature. A large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends assembled to pay the last sad tribute of respect to the memory of the deceased patriarch. Mr. Gauthreaux is survived by his wife, nee Marie Noemie Landry, of this parish, whom he led to the altar Jan. 4, 1859; four daughters, Mrs. P. J. Mathieu of Lake Charles, Mrs. Ellis LeBlanc and Mrs. Willie Hebert of Garyville, and Mrs. Robert H. McMurray, of Lancaster, S. C.; one brother, Joseph D. Gauthreaux of New Orleans; a sister, Sister Philomene of the St. Joseph Academy in New Orleans and ten grandchildren. To the bereaved family The Chief begs leave to tender assurances of sincere sympathy.
