Gillis, aged 20 years, native of Milan, Gibson county, Tennessee. "Leaves have their time to fall, The flowers to wither at the North wind's breath, But thou, thou hast all times for thine own, oh, death!" Little did the dear friends and relations who gathered at the hospital home of her brother scarcely six months since to witness the joyous marriage of Mr. Gillis and Miss Docie Tucker dream that the Death-Angel would so soon snatch her from their vision. Yet so it is. He who doeth all things well, has taken her to a higher sphere of being - even the Paradise of God. She grew up as some beauteous flower, exhaling a gentle odor of purity and peace around. She filled every station with a dignity and sweetness and grace truly admirable. To her husband and relations we tender our heartfelt sympathy and pray that her pure and gentle life may lead her to Him who is the true life and light of men, and will give us, if we ask Him, a joyous reunion in the mansions of the blest - Lead, kindly light, amid the encircling gloom, Lead Thou me on; The night is dark, and I am far from home, Lead Thou me on. Keep thou my feet; I do not ask to see, The distant scene; one step enough for me. S.
