At 3:30 o'clock last Saturday afternoon the mortal remains of Robert Allison Gonzales, better known to his friends as "Sonnie," who died on Friday night Sept. 8 were interred in the Prarieville cemetery with impressive services conducted by Rev. Felix Arcenaux and Rev. W.B. Waltman, following the beautiful service at the home of his brother, Eddie. The most impressive scene was his nine brothers, Alfred, Bennie, Eddie, Hisen, Orile, Allen, Sidney, Lester and Dewey, who acted as pallbearers, performing this last sad duty permitted them for their beloved brother. People from all the surrounding country, from far and near, attended the funeral. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. It was a most impressive and touching sight to see homage paid to one so universally loved and honored. One could but realize how dear he was to the hearts of his own people by which the old proverb was born in upon one's mind: "they loved him most who knew him best." Sonnie Gonzales' life could well serve as an example to any young man. He was a man of the highest characteristics and ideals, having but one aim and purpose in life, and that was to do his duty as he saw it. In all of our associations with him, no one ever heard him utter an unkind word about anyone, always treating every one with loving consideration whether they were of his opinion or not. Sonnie Gonzales was a native of this parish and had spent his long and useful life respected and loved by all who came in contact with his genial nature. As a citizen he took an active part in the political affairs of his parish and country. Upon the tenderest heartstrings of his family a sorrow as heavy as a huge stone has been rolled, and today they grieve. May we say to them "mourn not. God lives and loves and rules, and in that beautiful world of somewhere he stands with white hands beckoning them to follow; you shall meet him in the morning." Deceased is survived by his step-mother, Mrs. J.A. Gonzales, who was most devoted to him; nine brothers, Alfred, Bennie, Eddie, Hisen, Orile, Allen, Sidney, Lester and Dewey, and three sisters, Mrs. Walter Dyer, Mrs. Felix Arceneaux and Mrs. Oscar Brown.
