(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871 - current, Saturday, June 09, 1883, Image 3 Died. - GAUDIN - At his residence in the parish of Ascension, La., a mile below Donaldsonville, on Thursday, June 7, 1883, at 12:40 P. M., EDWARD GAUDIN, aged 61 years, 5 months and 7 days. Deceased was one of the oldest and most highly esteemed native citizens and sugar planters of this parish, and the intelligence of his death carries with it a pang of regret to the hearts of all who knew him. Genial, just, generous and warm hearted, he was universally respected and beloved, and his loss will be felt not alone within the circle of his sorrowing kindred, but among all classes of our people, from the humblest up to those holding highest rank in the social scale. The whole community mourns when such a man has passed away, and well may we regret him, for the places of men like Edward Gaudin are hard to fill. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon and was attended by a large concourse of the relatives and friends of the lamented deceased, including delegations of Ascension Hook and Ladder Company and Phoenix Steam Fire Company, of which organizations Mr. Gaudin was an honorary member, and the Independent Brass Band, of which he was godfather.
