(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871 - current, November 08, 1913, Image 2 Death of a Dear Child. - Rarely, if ever, have these columns chronicled a sadder incident than the death of little Evelyn Goette, the six-year-old daughter of Sidonius Goette and the late Josephine Sobral, which took place shortly before noon Wednesday, after a two weeks illness with bronchial pneumonia. From the first it was hovering over her, and every resource at the command of medical skill, supplemented by the most tender and careful nursing, was employed in the effort to restore the precious child to health. But God's will is not always our will, and often times He plucks the fairest flower of all the field for the garden of paradise. A bright, beautiful child, full of joy and happy spirits, it was heartbreaking to see her fall sick and fade away under the blighting touch of disease. Although her pain must have been excruciating at times, the bore her little body and soul bravely through the ordeal, nor once did she complain suffering much in silence rather than bring anguish to those about her. As the beautiful fall day was drawing to a close, the little white casket containing its fair burden of inanimate clay, covered with spotless flowers - emblems of her untainted soul - was borne to the Catholic cemetery and there left with tears and prayers to the sweet fragrance of the blossoms strewn by loving hands about her last resting place and to the songs of the birds that carol their softest notes in the quiet friendliness of the tombs. Evelyn was a dear little girl. Intelligent, affectionate and dutiful, she was the beloved pet of all her relatives and friends, and the untimely ending of her sweet young life has wrung the hearts of all who knew her. Words can not console the bereaved family, but there is solace in the thought that their precious one will never more suffer pain or sickness, and that little Evelyn is safe in the Father's care and with the angels around the throne of God.
