(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871 - current, November 09, 1907, Image 3 Death of Mrs. Sidonius Goette. - A pall of gloom was cast over this community yesterday morning by the announcement of the death of Mrs. Sidonius Goette, nee Josephine Sobral, who passed into the Great Beyond at 9:10 o'clock Thursday night after an illness of only a few days. The sad intelligence came as a distinct shock to the legion of friends of this estimable and popular woman, for while it was known that she was suffering with a severe attack of pneumonia and that her recovery was problematical, hopes were entertained that by the grace of a merciful Providence she would rally from the attack and be spared to her family and friends for many years to come. All that medical science could suggest or the most tender and assiduous care accomplish was done in an effort to check the ravages of the dread disease and restore the patient to health, but without avail, the Angel of Death finally emerging victorious from the unequal contest. All that was mortal of the lamented lady was laid to rest in the Goette tomb in the Catholic cemetery at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon, following impressive services at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Rev. L. G. Baudin officiating. The funeral obsequies were attended by an unusually large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends, attesting the high degree of esteem and admiration in which deceased was held by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Mrs. Goette was a native of this town and had resided here since her marriage several years ago. She was gifted with an attractive and engaging personality and an exceptionally keen and cultured intellect, and was adorned with all the charms and graces of perfect womanhood. Her untimely demise will carry profound grief and lasting regret into many households and create a void in the hearts of her relatives and friends that naught but time can heal or the Great Creator assuage. The surviving relatives include her husband, two little children - a son, Carl Conrad, and an infant daughter, Evaline; her father, A. M. Sobral; two sisters, Mrs. Peter Stifft of New Orleans and Miss Jacinta Sobral, and three brothers, Fred Sobral of Whitecastle, Joseph Sobral of Baton Rouge, and Antoine Sobral of Donaldsonville. To these afflicted ones The Chief begs leave to tender assurances of sincere sympathy.
