Death of John A. Gonzales. - John A. Gonzales, a Confederate veteran of 
gallant record and one of the oldest and most prominent citizens of the 
eastern section of the parish, died at his plantation residence at Gonzales 
last Sunday night, aged 79 years. The funeral took place Monday, interment 
being made in the Prairieville cemetery in the presence sympathizing 
friends. Mr. Gonzales of a throng of sorrowing relatives and is survived by 
his venerable wife, fourteen children, a number of grand and great-
grandchildren and numerous other relatives. The sincere condolence of a 
smpathetic (sic) community is extended to the bereaved family.
