(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, April 18, 1885, page 2 Jason Hall - Colored Boy Killed - On Saturday last, the 11th inst., at the Ashland plantation in the seventh ward of this parish, Jason Hall, a colored boy, was shot and killed by a companion and playmate, Philip Saul, 15 years old. Philip had taken from his father's house a revolver with one chamber loaded that had been in the office of the Clerk and Recorder for a long time as evidence in the shooting case against Dave Jackson, and the boy made several attempts to discharge the weapon without success. He was snapping the hammer, with the pistol pointing in the direction of Hall, when the loaded chamber was unexpectedly discharged and the bullet passed through the latter's left hand and into his stomach, producing internal hemorrhage and death. An inquest was conducted by Dr. Duffel, and a verdict rendered by the Coroner's jury in accordance with the facts above recited. The boy who did the shooting has been placed under arrest to await a judicial investigation of the homicide.
