[volume] (Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, June 23, 1883, Image 2 DEATH OF JUDGE HYAMS. - In common with every member of the newspaper fraternity in Louisiana we were deeply shocked to learn of the sudden death of Hon. Henry J. Hyams, editor of the West Baton Rouge Sugar Planter, who was stricken down by heart disease on Sunday before last. Judge Hyams - or Uncle Harry, as he was familiarly called by his confreres - was 55 years of age, a native of North Carolina, but had resided in Louisiana since childhood. For twenty years he edited the Sugar Planter, and during that period held several positions of public honor and trust, in all of which he rendered pure and efficient service. We were quite intimately acquainted with the deceased and esteemed him in the highest degree as a warm hearted, whole souled, genial gentleman, whom it was a privilege to know and a pleasure to meet. Farewell, old friend! May the sod rest lightly upon you and a kind Providence guard and comfort the dear ones who Sigh for the touch of a vanished hand, The sound of a voice that's gone.
