(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, November 04, 1911, page 4 Death of Mrs. Clement Israel. - Mrs. Clement Israel, nee Sidonia Vives, died at the residence of her son, David Israel, Jr., at 6 o'clock p.m. last Monday, aged sixty-nine year and four months. Mrs. Israel was stricken with paralysis some months ago, and while she partially recovered from the effects of the stroke, she never completely regained her health and had been a helpless invalid from the moment of the visitation. On Saturday last she contracted pneumonia, and although every remedy was employed in an effort to combat the ravages of the dreaded malady, the patient's weakened condition rendered it impossible for her to withstand the attack and the end was inevitable, coming quietly and painlessly at twilight Monday. Mrs. Israel was the widow of Clement Israel, sergeant-major of the Donaldsonville Artillery of the Army of Northern Virginia, and was a member of one of the oldest and best-known families of this section. Her father was a prominent sugar planter of Assumption parish, and her paternal great-grandfather was Don Juan Vives, a surgeon in the Spanish colonial army and in his day an extensive planter and influential citizen of upper Assumption. Mrs. Israel had resided in Donaldsonville for many years, and by virtue of her kindly disposition and attractive personality had made for herself a large number of loyal friends, to whom the announcement of her demise has brought sincere sorrow. The funeral took place at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with services and interment in the Catholic church and cemetery. Mrs. Israel is survived by three children, a son, ex-Councilman David Israel, Jr., and two daughters, Mrs. Andrew Gingry, of New Orleans, and Miss Loulie Israel. To these afflicted ones, as well as the other members of the bereaved family, the profound sympathy of the entire community is sorrowfully tendered.
