(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, August 24, 1912, page 4 Death of David Israel, Sr. - David Israel, Sr., a native and life-long resident of this city, died at his home in Chetimaches street at 4:30 o'clock Monday afternoon, aged sixty-three years and ten months. Mr. Israel had been in poor health for a long time and went to New Orleans some weeks ago for medical treatment, but it was found nothing could be done for him and he returned home to await the end. The funeral took place Tuesday after-noon at 5 o'clock and was largely attended, among the concourse of sorrowing friends who accompanied the remains to their last resting place being a delegation of members of the local A.O.U.W. lodge, of which deceased had been a member for years, and uniformed fireman representing all the companies composing the local department. Services were held at the Catholic church, Rev. J.M.T. Massardier officiating, and interment was made in the family tomb in the Catholic cemetery. Mr. Israel was one of Donaldsonville's oldest and most prominent citizens, and at different times in the past had held the positions of chief deputy sheriff of Ascension parish, mayor of Donaldsonville, deputy United States revenue collector and postmaster of this city. He was one of the organizers of Ascension Hook and Ladder Fire Company, and had served as secretary of that organization for more than thirty years. At the time of his death he was lessee of the Donaldsonville wharf. He was a staunch Republican in politics, and in years past had been a candidate for various parochial and district offices on the ticket of that party. Mr. Israel is survived by one daughter, Miss Adele Israel, and two sons, Chester R. Israel, of Biloxi, Miss., and Leslie Israel, of Crowley, to whom the sympathy of the entire community is extended.
