(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, April 18, 1908, page 3 Italian Commits Suicide. - Louis Lalomia, a well-known Italian saloonkeeper of this town, committed suicide near his home at the corner of Lessard and Albert streets shortly before 11 o'clock last Wednesday night by shootieg (sic) himself three times with a 32 calibre (sic) Smith & Wesson revolver. One of the bullets was fired into the throat and emerged just below the left cheek bone; a second entered the right side and was found lodged beneath the skin on the left side of the body, and a third penetrated the abdomen just above the navel. It was the latter wound which proved fatal, death ensuing at 2:45 o'clock Thursday morning. About 7 o'clock Wednesday evening Lalomia left his place of business in a restless and nervous condition, and upon reaching his home immediately went to bed. He seemed to be considerably worried and disturbed, and, being unable to sleep, got up and paced the floor for some time. Later he again sought his couch, but subsequently arose and asked his wife for his revolver, stating that he had to get out of the house as somebody was coming to murder him. The terrified woman begged her husband to allow her to accompany him, but he curtly refused her request and instructed her to remain at home. After securing his pistol, Lalomia walked out to the banquette and there shot himself three times, as stated above, falling almost into the arms of Officer Albert Gauthreaux, who happened to be in the vicinity at the time and was the first person to reach the side of the unfortunate man. Lalomia was carried into his residence and placed in bed, and upon being asked who had shot him he replied that he had attempted to kill himself because he was tired of living. lalomia was a native of Italy and was thirty-two years, eleven months and fourteen days of age. For some time past his actions have been queer, and it is thought that he had become mentally unbalanced and took his own life while laboring under the delusion that somebody was trying to murder him. He leaves a wife and three young children and one brother, M. Lalomia, who was his partner in business. The Lalomia brothers conducted the Grey Mule saloon in Railroad avenue, at which place it was alleged that Stephano Monfre, one of the principals in the celebrated Lamana kidnapping case, had stopped over night while fleeing from New Orleans last summer. The funeral took place at 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon under the auspices of the Societa Italiana di M.B. Conte di Torino, of which deceased was a member. Services were held at the Church of the Sacred Heart and interment was made in the Catholic cemetery.
