Lear. - It is with profound regret The Chief records the death of Mrs. Henry W. Lear, nee Virginia Duke, who passed away at 9:45 o'clock Tuesday night at her home in Pascagoula, Miss. Mrs. Lear had been ill a long time and it was known that her death was inevitable, but the sad announcement proved none the less a shock to her family and friends, and was received with sincere sorrow wherever she was known. The body was brought to Donaldsonville Thursday afternoon via the T. and P. Railroad and was laid to rest in the Protestant cemetery, after services at the grave conducted by the local Methodist minister. Mrs. Lear was a sister of Messrs. J.Rumsey Duke and Henry C. Duke, of this city, and was a native of Donaldsonville. She resided here up to a few years ago, when she removed to Pascagoula with her husband, who is engaged in farming near that place. Possessed of all the womanly virtues and accomplishments, with a cultured mind and a rare charm of manner, Mrs. Lear was idolized by her family and beloved by her friends, and the sorrow occasioned by her untimely demise is sincere and lasting. Besides her husband, she is survived by five children, namely: Mrs. Clarence Cary, of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Thos. Crebbs, Miss Maud Lear, Duke Lear and Cecil Lear, of Pascagoula. Heartfelt sympathy is extended to the bereaved family in the hour of their grief. Henery W. Lear, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Crebbs, Miss Maud Lear and Cecil Lear, of Pascagoula, Miss.; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Cary, of Houston, Texas, and Robert Duke, of Hammond, were here Thursday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Henry W. Lear.
