Lear, a native of Shalby, Nova Scotia, and for over seventy years a resident of St. James parish, died at his home near Lauderdale at 1:40 o'clock Thursday morning, aged 82 years, 7 months and 12 days. His remains were laid to rest in the Episcopal cemetery at Donaldsonville at 11:30 o'clock a.m. yesterday, after services at the church conducted by Rev. U.P. Bowden. Mr. Lear's parents were natives of England and returned to that country after a short residence in Nova Scotia, later coming to America and making their home in St. James parish, this state. Mr. Lear followed the occupation of mechanical engineer up to the time that the approach of old age compelled him to desist from his labors, when he settled down on his farm near Lauderdale and engaged in agriculture. He is survived by five children, two of whom are girls and three boys. The daughters are Miss Maggie Lear, of St. James, and Mrs. I.Z. Winn, of New Orleans, and the sons are Henry W. and George M. Lear, of Donaldsonville, and James A. Lear, of St. James. The Chief joined Mr. Lear's large circle of friends in extending deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.
