(Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, November 21, 1908, page 3 FATAL RIVER ACCIDENT. - Steamer Carter Wrecked by Boiler Explosion Near Bayou Goula - Clerk J.C. LeBlanc Believed to Have Been Killed. - The steamer Carter, which [assed Donaldsonville at 8:30 o'clock this morning, upward bound, was completely wrecked by the explosion of her boilers some time this afternoon a short distance above Bayou Goula. After blowing up, the vessel caught fire and was burned to the water's edge. Clerk J. Casimir LeBlanc, a son of the late J. Elphege LeBlanc of Belle Terre plantation, could not be located after the accident and is believed to have perished. The bartender of the steamer is also missing and may have been killed. There were no other casaulties (sic), so far as is known at present, but a number of negro roustabouts and several white employees sustained severe injuries. The crew of the ill fated vessel was picked up by the towboat McDougall and brought to Donaldsonville this afternoon, arriving here at 3 o'clock and leaving immediately for New Orleans via the T. and P. Railway.
