[volume] (Donaldsonville, La.) 1871-current, December 22, 1883, Image 2 SMALL POX. - There has been death from small pox in Donaldsonville this week, the victim being the wife of Hon. Pierre Landry, and the only new cases are two of Mr. Landry's children. Two children were taken down just after Mrs. Landry contracted the disease and one of them should have been reported last week, but the case did not come to our knowledge until after the Chief had been issued. There are now five small pox patients in town - three at Mr. Landry's, Mrs. Antoine Suares and the colored girl "Kioton" and we understand that they are all light cases. We are sincerely sorry to report the death of Mrs. Amanda Landry, wife of Hon. Pierre Landry, Representative from this parish in the lower House of the General Assembly and Presiding Elder for the Baton Rouge District of the Louisiana Conference, M. E. Church. Mrs. Landry died just before daylight yesterday morning, of small pox, and owing to the contagious character of the disease she was buried shortly afterward. She was a good woman, warmly devoted to the interests of her family, and her loss will be keenly felt by them. All who were acquainted with the deceased will learn with regret of her untimely death.
